Job Description


Under direct supervision, the Credit and Collections Specialist is responsible for collections and management of large customer accounts.




  • Maintains national customer base over $10 million, specializing in grouped accounts that have credit exposure exceeding 1 Million ? (Parent accounts with subsidiaries) (over 400 Active Accounts).


  • Works closely with management to maintain International Accounts.


  • Handles outbound and inbound calls for collections in accordance with all company policies, procedures


  • and guidelines.


  • Works with customers to settle disputes, investigate variances between pricing and shipping quantities,


  • freight charges, etc.???????????


  • Investigates discrepancies between payments received and invoiced amounts.


  • Diligently?pursues collections to conclusion.


  • Reviews and releases of customers that appear on credit hold.


  • Assists in new account and existing large account reviews in order to extend or decrease credit limits.


  • Works closely with branches to ensure timely online billing.


  • Collaborates with branches when handling the distributors/consignment/Fixed Fee accounts and prepares manual charges requests for accent application.


  • Maintains weekly business relationships with accounts.


  • Back up for new accounts maintenance.


  • Reviews and prepares customer refund requests.


  • Sends collection letters/Final Demand Letters.


  • Prepares documentation of accounts that are to be sent to collection agency.


  • Scans AR documentation as needed.


  • Works on projects for management as needed.






Position Requirements




  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.


  • 5+ years? experience in credit and collection, familiar with policies, procedures and collection techniques.


  • Must possess good MS Excel skills.


  • Requires excellent communication, organizational and professional skills with the ability to professionally interact with co-workers and external customers, and balance multiple responsibilities.


  • Should be able to demonstrate resourcefulness and creativity in resolving problems.






Physical/Mental Requirements




  • Must be able to sit for extend periods of time; a minimum of 2 hours.


  • Must be able to maneuver to all areas of the office.


  • Must be able to lift up and carry up to 10 pounds.


  • Must be able to bend, reach, kneel, twist, and grip items while working at assigned desk area.


  • Must have the manual dexterity and coordination to operate office equipment


  • Must be able to simultaneously manage several objectives, and reassign priorities.


  • Must be able to tolerate changing priorities, and complete assignments despite frequent interruptions.


  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.


  • Must be able to respond to visual and aural cues.

Work Environment


Work environment is typically considered within a Smiths location during normal or extended business hours to include offices, manufacturing plants and repair facilities. Work environment may also include customer sites including oil well sites, and meeting venues.




  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and approved PPE is required when on the factory floor.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
